More Information
Under the 2020 Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act signed into law in March 2020, states received funding to support states during COVID-19. As a part of this, the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund or GEER Fund, was awarded to Mayor Muriel Bowser to support remote learning efforts.

Through this fund, states are permitted to purchase at home internet, especially in underserved communities. Of the $5.8 million of GEER funding the Mayor received the DC Government is using $3.3 million to support Internet access.
